2024 in Review: Klarian’s 5 Key Highlights
2024 is almost over, giving us the perfect opportunity to reflect on what Klarian has achieved in the last 12 months.
It’s been a year of success for Klarian, with the company reaching a number of milestones and taking important strides forward in all areas of the business.
Here are 5 of our key highlights from 2024:
1. Announcing Juno Perform and Orkus
Klarian has announced two innovative products for the pipeline industry in 2024, Orkus and Juno Perform.
Working in partnership with Thurber Engineering, we’ve developed Orkus, a proactive geohazard management platform designed with users in mind.
Orkus features:
- Centralised data management and visualisation
- Customisable workflows and algorithms
- Data structures for enhanced spatial queries
- Bespoke assessment forms
We also announced Juno Perform, which transforms data into intelligence to improve pipeline performance and operations, reducing costs and energy use.
Juno Perform features:
- Efficiency monitoring
- Routing optimisation
- Impact assessments
- Pumping and pumpset combination optimisation

2. Completion of More Successful Work with BPA
2024 saw the continuation and expansion of our work with the British Pipeline Agency (BPA), having already demonstrated significant value in 2023. Previously, BPA CEO, John Armstrong, has said that “Klarian’s solutions are of a high value to us and we strongly believe their solutions will help any pipeline company to achieve lower costs, timesaving, higher asset utilisation, and facilitate predictive maintenance.”
Our work in 2024 continued this trend, helping BPA to avoid unplanned pump stops to reduce downtime. What’s more, Juno Perform found better pumping combinations and optimal routing which saw massive relative efficiency gains of over 200%, without the need for additional investment from BPA as the changes were purely operational.
3. Winning the Breakthrough Culture Award
Our most recent highlight: winning the Breakthrough Culture Award and being named one of the UK’s most loved companies to work for. Klarian has put a vast amount of effort into developing a culture that nurtures innovation and excellence. The Breakthrough Culture Award is an acknowledgement of that effort.
Earlier this month we posted a blog capturing our favourite reactions from across the team, read that here.
4. Recruiting Excellence
For any scale-up, recruitment is the key to success. Finding the very best talent is always a challenge, but Klarian’s excellent culture, as recognised by the Breakthrough Culture Award, makes things easier. This year saw important recruitment throughout the business, with 7 new employees across 3 departments. There has been significant growth in our Technical Team and our Commercial Team, with senior talent recruited in both areas.
Technical Team
Anna Anderson | Lead Data Scientist
Clare Acremen | Applied Scientist
Feyaaz Chishty | Software Developer
Commercial Team
Paul Silver | Chief Commercial Officer
Sarah Brooks | Commercial Lead
Adam Wheatcroft | Commercial Executive
Operations Team
Sarah Nicholas | Finance and Operations Manager
5. Continuation of Our Partnership with Thurber
We’ve already discussed our innovative geohazard management platform, Orkus, but it’s important to recognise our partners at Thurber Engineering who helped to develop the software.
In September, we announced our partnership with Canadian engineering consultancy, Thurber Engineering. It is a partnership that has developed over the course of two years and the contract signed in September is testament to the trusted relationship the two companies have worked hard to achieve.
Thurber is a Canadian consulting firm wholly owned by senior practising professionals. The company was founded in 1957, and has grown to employ over 500 engineers, geoscientists and technologists in 15 offices across Canada. Thurber provides a variety of geotechnical, geo-environmental and materials engineering and testing services.
The intent of this partnership is to share knowledge and to continue development of our geohazard management platform, Orkus. Both companies are committed to leveraging their unique expertise to drive shared growth and continue to develop innovative solutions for the pipeline sector.
6. Speaking at WWEM
Dr Liam Trimby, Klarians Head of Data Analytics, delivered a talk at the Water, Wastewater, and Environmental Monitoring conference in Brimingham.
Liam spoke about the AI techniques that Klarian have used in the energy sector and how they could be applied to solve some of the biggest challenges in the water sector.
With Asset Management Planning Period 8 (AMP8) on the horizon, water companies are exploring ways to improve their service and exploring AI as a part of that. Problems like rising main bursts continue to frustrate the water sector having increased by 70% over the last seven years.
Klarian’s commercial lead, Sarah Brooks, also chaired two panels at WWEM covering AMP8 and the use of AI and machine learning in the water sector. The panels brought together stakeholders from across the water value chain to discuss how to approach the challenges faced by the sector.
